All students at Soka University of America are required to maintain medical insurance coverage for urgent and emergency medical care within the locality of the SUA campus. This medical insurance may be provided through the University’s student health plan or by another policy. If the student fails to submit a waiver before the deadline, then the student will be automatically enrolled, and the premium will be added to the student’s account at the University.

In order to be approved for a waiver, your alternate health coverage must meet the requirements listed below and be submitted with proof documentation prior to the waiver deadline below.

Fall Waiver Deadlines:

New Incoming Students: 07/01/2024

Returning Students: 06/03/2024

Please review these prior to submitting your waiver request.

Alternative Health Insurance Plans must meet the following requirements:

  1. Policy must provide local urgent and emergency medical coverage.
    • This is especially important if your plan is a managed care plan or health maintenance organization (HMO). Some plans will not pay for services provided “out of network”. Please confirm this with your current insurance provider
  1. Policy must have unlimited medical benefit per injury or sickness.
  2. Policy must include a primary care physician (PCP) in southern Orange County, CA if your current policy is an HMO
